August 28, 2010 - Wedding Reception

I was introduced to the bride through a coworker. The bride is his wife's cousin. I was slightly familiar with the family because I did the coworkers wedding about five years prior. (*Note: I have done at 8-10 weddings for their family or friends. Referrals work.) From what I was told, the bride had previously contracted with a DJ. But the DJ service went out of business less than two months prior to their wedding reception, keeping all of the couples money. WEDDING NIGHTMARE!

Before contracting the wedding I had to verify a previous booking. The previous booking was for a charity event for that day. But the organizer changed the date, freeing me up to do the wedding reception. We contracted the wedding and the couple was sent all of the necessary forms to make their reception run smoothly. Strangely, the charity event organizer decided to change back to the original date. After discussions with both the bride and the event organizer, it was decided my service could provide for both events that day.

The PAWS Walk, a fundraiser for an animal shelter in Urbana organized by Chelsea H., was a great time. Many of the Urbana U. students showed their support while line dancing and playing cornhole. Their was also a christian band that played music. But as soon as my time was finished I had too hurriedly pack to rush by to Springfield for the reception.

I arrived in Springfield with about an hour to unpack and get set-up. It was my first time playing at that venue. There were no issues, except their friendly staff. Normally that is a great thing. But as I was setting up with less than an hour to go, it became a slight hindrance. However, this business is about human interaction and connection so we chatted as much as time allowed. I was tying my tie as the first guests arrived.

As with most weddings guests varied in age from seniors to infants. The bridal party consisted of a group of friends and family in their mid-twenties that had known each other for years. That always guarantees is great time and they did not disappoint. I continue to tell people that it was one of my top five most fun reception.

*Little did I know their friends would continue the fun with their receptions months later.

*DJ Highlight of the night. During dinner the best man asked that I play some sexy music to introduce his toast. I decided on a loop of Barry White's Midnight and You. He played it up and it went over perfectly, as if it had been planned for months.
